TOURIST INFORMATION

What to see in Chile?

Chile is a "land of contrasts", a country of great beauty that offers tourists stunning nature in a safe and stable environment. If your plan on spending some time travelling around Chile, then you should consider visiting one of its major attractions:

  • San Pedro de Atacama: Continuously inhabited for some 10,000 years, San Pedro de Atacama was coveted by the Tihuanaco and Inca empires for its mineral wealth and importance as a crossroads of desert commerce. Today, dozens of archaeological sites, and excellent museum, and nearby access to the Altiplano, massive salt flats, the Valle de la Luna and pre-Hispanic communities of the Loa river make San Pedro northern Chile's top tourist destination.

    For more information see here.

  • Easter Island: Located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, facing the northern coast of Chile, Easter Island is 5 hour flight from Santiago. The island has beaches, archaeological zones, volcanoes, and an exuberant culture to offer visitors.

Some of the highlights on Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, are its famous Moais, ancient ceremonial sculptures of stone with human forms, vestiges of a culture whose mysteries still remain unsolved, fabulous beaches such as Anakena, with tepid waters and white sand. Adding to these are the natural spots of the island, green meadows, majestic volcanoes, and nearby, the majority of the ceremonial centers and archaeological vestiges of the island, protected by the Rapa Nui National Park.

    For more information see here.
  • Torres del Paine National Park: The National Park Torres del Paine is, without doubt, one of the most spectacular national parks in the country. A world biosphere reserve, it has a huge variety of plant and animal species which, with its incredibly beautiful setting has made it an almost unequalled destination for hikers and backpackers, ecology-lovers and adventure sportsmen alike. Snow-capped mountain peaks, cascading rivers and waterfalls, glaciers and mirrored lakes: in all respects Torres del Paine national park deserves its reputation.

  • Pumalin Park: The park boasts a surface area of 768,000 acres (320,000 hectares) of the last protected native forests of Southern Chile, territory that North American, Douglas Tompkins, adopted as a result of his secret passion to preserve the land. It is located in one of the most untouched places on the planet.

    For more information see here.
  • Lake fjord and glacier cruises: Discover the most virgin and unexplored places of Chile sailing across the Patagonian fiords and channels.

As the conference approaches general information about Chile will be added here, in the meantime, you may visit Chile's Tourism Corporation website.
